One Direction to get a 3-D movie !

It's One Direction's time to get a 3D documentary on the rise and rise of the band.

Produced by Sony Pictures and directed by documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock, the film will release on August 30 next year.

Based out of London, 1D (as they're more popularly known) comprises Nial Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. The group was discovered by Simon Cowell in 2010 on the UK X-Factor. They quickly became one of the show's all-time most popular acts, finishing in the final three.

They made US history in March 2012 with their debut album Up All Night entering the Billboard Top 200 chart at the No. 1 position. With sales of over 13 million records worldwide behind them, a second successful album Take Me Home and a very busy tour calendar to boot, they're surely going places.

Says Spurlock, "It's an amazing moment in time for the band. To capture this journey and share it with audiences around the world will be an undertaking that I am proud to be a part of."

The group's mentor Simon Cowell says, "Morgan is the perfect person to give that access-all-areas behind-the-scenes look into what's it like to be One Direction today. What the band has achieved is incredible...this is for them."
